Dragon Ball Super News: Jump Festa 2022

So this weekend, Shueisha’s Jump Festa 2022 took place, and we got more news and another trailer for the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie.

One of the most important things to take note of is that Gohan is clearly going to play a large role in this film, as had been speculated previously. With the large fanbase that Gohan has, the majority of fans are absolutely delighted about this news. To add to the appeal, Gohan once again is donning the old Piccolo uniform he used to wear.

Piccolo too is going to get a lot of the spotlight in this film. People are theorising that Goku and Vegeta will not play as large a part throughout this story as they have done throughout Dragon Ball Super, and I for one would be in favour of this. One of my complaints about modern Dragon Ball is that many of its fantastic characters have seemingly been mostly forgotten about and underutilised, even taking into account the Tournament of Power arc.

Gohan and Piccolo will have more time to shine in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Other information showed that the Red Ribbon Army has once again risen to prominence, this time with a large pharmaceutical arm to add to their nefarious dealings. The information given appears to suggest that their new androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2, are unaware of the kind of organisation they are working for, believing themselves to be noble and just like superheroes.

The latest trailer made me feel better about the animation style, which in my opinion looked a little iffy in some places in the last trailer. This time, things look more polished. Some of my misgivings are still there, but I can understand what Toei is going for here. The rain effects during Gohan’s battle with Gamma 1 really shows what the new CGI style can bring to the table.

The movie is being released on the 22nd of April in Japan next year, but it remains to be seen when the film will be released in the west. Taking into account how Dragon Ball Super: Broly was released in the west only about a month after its Japanese release, we can perhaps expect something similar here.

In other news, it was also mentioned that the Granolah arc is now coming to its conclusion. I’m not happy with this news, as the arc has not really hit its stride yet, and it looks like there are still many plot points to be explored. Hopefully, this means that the Granolah arc will just transition into the next one, such as with the Saiyan and Namek arcs of Dragon Ball’s original run.

Are you excited about Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and do you think it will be as good as the Broly movie? Leave your thoughts down below.
