Netflix Cowboy Bebop Teaser Thoughts

So today, we got a new teaser for the upcoming Cowboy Bebop live-action adaptation for Netflix. It was nice to see this and get a better idea of what the series is going to be like, and from what I can see, it has actually appeared to change the opinions of many Cowboy Bebop fans who were doubtful about the show.

The only real criticisms I have of this teaser are that the costumes do look a bit cosplay-like, and that the dialogue was a little too cheesy. The issue with the costumes I didn’t really completely agree with up until now, but seeing this new teaser has made me understand this particular concern.

In terms of the dialogue, it’s been a fair few years since I have watched the original anime, and while I’m sure there was some cheesy dialogue in there, I can’t remember it being on the same level as this teaser.

We had an idea of this with the opening sequence that was revealed previously, however, but this teaser shows definitively that this adaptation will be using Yoko Kanno’s original score. The teaser features Green Bird quite prominently, which is probably my personal favourite Cowboy Bebop track. To know that the music will be mostly left intact is something I am sure many fans are happy to learn.

I’d also like to add that while John Cho and Daniella Pineda seem fine in their roles, I really like the look of Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black. He just looks and sounds the part, capturing well the full essence of that character. We’ll get a better look at the performances though once the series launches in November.

In conclusion then, this teaser I feel is a good representation of what we are going to get, and that fans can perhaps feel a little more excited about what is to come.
